JSRF - People & the bad guys

Hey there!

I did a bit of progress on the JSRF model viewer, now with textures!
Here’s a preview with some models of the enemies and people in JSRF.

As usual I had very little time to work on this but I did get textures to load although I hit a brick wall with some model's texture projection getting messed up, turns out its a bug with the third party model viewer I am using.

So I'll need to try more model viewers (because no time to code my own) and I'll only be able to sort that out whenever I find time to dive back deep into this, not anytime soon unfortunately.

But if you have any models in mind you'd like to see, let me know.

Cheers

Play the JSRF Garage in Team Fortres 2! (2014 Edition)

If you've read the blog before, you may know I started porting the map long ago.
I recently revamped it a bit and brought back the server.

I have ported the Garage level from Jet Set Radio Future to Team Fortress 2 as a map and got a server running it 24/7!

So If you happen to play TF2 join right now!!
And if not you can still get TF2 on steam, the game is free.

Server IP:
8.2.122.33:27015

Cick to Join the server if you have Steam/TF2 installed:
steam://connect/8.2.122.33:27015

Join the Steam Group:
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/jsrf-inside

I have ported the level from JSRF, remade the entire physical collision model, you can grinding rails (sorry only can be one-way in TF2), jump ramps and use half pipes.

I also switched the health and ammo packs by JSRF spray cans, you can select song loops by hitting/shooting one of the DJ tables on the center of the map.

If you don't want to fight with other players you can just go to the center of the map, in this area you cannot be shot by other players :)
Edit: type !friendly in chat to spawn in friendly mode so you cannot be attacked nor attack if you just want to chill.

PS: If you see me in the server, I am known as "BANG!" in TF2.

JSRF - Ingame billboards - Part 3

This time we take a look at the billboards, or should I say neon signs, from the level "99th street", probably one of the most outstanding and  unique levels in JSRF for its artstyle.

Mind you, most of these are animated ingame, they use some sell-illumination/glow efffects which are not represented here since its just the 2D texture.
For those animated you can clearly see the repetition of the same patterns with different colors or variations.
Others are probably animated through a shader.

I have actually turned some of these into GIFs, I am not sure how the game does these texture animations so these are just a guess, but should be pretty close.

JSRF - Ingame billboards - Part 2

I don't know about you but I just love the style as well as the detail put in for these ingame billboards/posters and other form of fictive ads in JSRF.

Hats off to Ryuta Ueda and the team.
Actually, here's the art credits part of JSRF:

JSRF - Ingame billboards - Part 1

Some random billboards you see ingame, there's a bunch more, click for larger image (actually better if you download it, or open it in another tab to be able to zoom in)

"hl_02_wallkanban06_" and the other 05 are obviously  placeholder textures.

Gotta love these, bottom left seem to be fictitious music bands posters, my favorites there.

This little guy is actually seen in the game as a 3D object and you can smash it, same for the iguana, there is a lizard like creature in the sewer levels.
They actually have some of these fictitious ads representing things that are actually seen in the game as objects or living things that you can interact with to some extent.

I have no idea if they are references to pop culture or Japanese culture or maybe its just the artist that made his own little universe.
Either way cool intricate stuff you don’t necessarily see in every game where props are at times created and treated as soulless space fillers, these do seem to carry some meaning or at least the fact that they are represented through several forms makes it more believable.

Hover, check out this game!

Hey again :)

You probably already heard of this game by now, but I feel like sharing it because its pretty sweet!

The game developers at Fusty Game, a team compromised of only three developers have created this game prototype named "Hover" in only 4 months and its already looking very promising!
The game is inspired by games like JSRF, Tony Hawk Pro Skater and some also guess Mirror's Edge.

Its quite reminiscent of JSRF for its freedom of movement and the giant city, although its not roller skating but rather more like parkour with still some sliding and grind-able surfaces, air combos etc
And while it doesn't hide that it takes some inspirations from the previous mentioned games I think its safe to say it has its own visual and gameplay style and they are putting a lot of emphasis on the city and its inhabitants to have life and background stories, which is something I personally love to see in games, exploring a city full of life to discover.

Even better, Hideki Naganuma (composer for JSR & JSRF & other SEGA games) has joined them to create the soundtrack for Hover!

They are also based in France, where I am too ;) so even more reasons to support them!

Check out the game on their Kickstarter page:

Cheers!

JSRF Character Dialogues

Heya!

This time here are some actual character dialogues, the ones you see in a bubble on top of the character, they are actually in a different folder (\Media\Event\TalkEvent\).

Same as before, I can't get the character names assigned to it, then again you can probably guess most time which character it is.

###############################################################
PTE001.bin

This is the GG's Garage.
Hey, where's our pizza?

Huh? You're not the pizza guy?
Oh, you're here to join the GG's, eh?

Heh... Tell you what. Find Gum.
She's the one you wanna talk to.

Just get close to her and pull
the gRight Triggerh. Got it?

###############################################################

The list is quite long, here's the rest of the dialogues:  http://pastebin.com/0wBmnytM

And as DJ Professor K would say:

JSRF Dialogues!

Hey, long time right? I hope ya'll been having a great time, obviously I haven't  been posting here for a lonnng time.
Still hoping for a JSRF port to PC or so, who knows time will tell!

So since I don't really have time to dig more into the JSRF files, I found something interesting to post that didn't take much time to figure out, some lines of the character "dialogues".

These are located in the "Event"(s) game files in "Media\Event\Event\".
Now I don't have the names of the characteers assigned to the dialogue, since its defined by some number ID which i'd have to figure out which corresponds to which, but I am sure for the most part, many of you can guess which character it is.

So here's a little of it! let me know if you want to see more.

#######################################################
e000.dat

This is Shibuya Terminal, the city's
biggest non-stop dance party.

Let's hit this joint and cover up
that freaky-looking graffiti!

#######################################################
e001.dat

Yo yo yo yo, all right,
let's get this party started.

I'll be your audience,
so let's see what you got!

Uh-uh... Someone done stole
the goddess of the streets,

the statue at Dogenzaka Hill.
I bet the punks who did this are

the same ones who're spreading
all those nasty rumors!

Cover Dogenzaka Hill

in graffiti and flush out those
rumor-spreading scumbags!

The list is quite long, so there's the rest: http://pastebin.com/xbijX8br

That's all for now folks, let me know if you want to see more of this.

Cheers!
