JSRF ModTool: Open Source

Hey,

I am making the JSRF ModTool open source, I wanted to do this for a while but wasn't very confident about my code, either way its best to put it out there once and for all.

If you're a programmer and are interested in modifying the tool for personal use, or contributing, I am all for it, I am also all ears if you have feedback on my coding, bad practices etc I would love to hear it so I can improve.

 Cheers!

  1. Wow that look so great! Does the mod tool include any assets such as the characters, or objects? I had a look through and I couldn't find any

    1. No, that would be illegal, the game assets are copyrighted material.
You have to own a copy of the game, extract the files and open them with the tool.

  2. awesome blog you have here! i just took apart my xbox and cleaned the disk driver and have been playing future non-stop. the emulator of it crashed a lot when i collected graffiti souls and that led to me getting a physical release. the thought in the back of my head thats constantly been there is what rom hack of this game would look like and because of your efforts throughout recent years i wouldnt doubt thats far away in the future. i dont know much about coding but if itd be possible to construct custom maps and take control of the game id definetly force myself to learn. this game is too amazing to go untouched by the hands of modmakers and the community for this game is amazing. its been said before but ill say it again, this is the best game franchise.

    2. Thanks, yeah I looked into making custom maps, that would be THE dream, unfortunately I wasn't able to reverse engineer the map's physical collision model format and besides that, there would be more similarly complex files to handle as well, its a huge task more than anything I have previously done on the game.

For now I have put aside modding & reverse engineering JSRF indefinitely or finally, because it takes too much time and I should focus on my career and life.

If I tried to go back at making custom maps, I would rather seek the help of someone who can reverse engineer by reading the ASM aka the CPU instructions of the game's executable file, I know someone but he is not interested in that area for now.
